On April 26, Shenzhen Assembly Hall hosted the International Worker’s Day Award Ceremony, where over 400 worker representatives from all walks of life in the city were present to celebrate May 1 – the worker’s holiday. Physics Department Director He Jiaqing received a medal at the ceremony, making him the first SUSTech staff to receive such honor, and was the only award recipient to deliver a speech on stage. In his speech, He Jiaqiang called on all workers to pursue their dreams, strive for perfection in work, implement Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, carry the spirit of Economic Reform and Opening-Up Policy, and build a better Shenzhen.

Professor He Jiaqing has been researching on transmission electron microscopy, thermoelectric materials, and structure and property relationship. He has overcome numerous obstacles and made many innovative achievements in the structure, physical mechanism, and relevance of functional thermoelectric materials. At least 70 of his academic papers have been published in world-class journals such as “Nature,” “Science,” “Energy and Environmental Science,” and “Advanced Materials.” He also aims to industrialize his advanced research results by applying for both domestic and international patents, based on his findings. In this way, China can take the initiative in applying high technologies that stem from research findings without having to purchase the copyrights from other countries and achieve scientific breakthroughs in areas such as thermoelectric refrigeration and thermoelectric power generation.

By taking his job seriously and working tirelessly, He Jiaqing has made multiple academic achievements and should be regarded as the embodiment of Labor Day spirit.
